WHAT TO EAT IN RUSSIA
Undoubtedly to explore country means to try local food. I’m sure you have to taste national Russian cuisine from tsar’s dishes to very simple village food.
So here we have the list of main dishes you need to check:
◽️ Soups: Ukha (fish soup), Borsh, Solyanka, Lapsha (classic chicken soup), Pea soup, Okroshka or Svekolnik (cold soups for summer time).
◽️ Snacks: Crepes with caviar/salmon, different types of pies, kholodets (meat jelly -perfect for vodka), furring with onion and traditional black bread.
◽️ Salads: vinegret / olivie (traditional new year salad), furring under coat (something special) / russian village vegetable salad with sunflower oil or sour cream.
◽️ Main plates: cutlet with mashed potato (classic for soviet period)/ pelmeni (kind of dumplings can be with meat or fish), fried country potato with pickles, different types of baked chicken / duck / beef / pork.
◽️ Desserts: pancakes with sour cream/ condensed milk / sweet patties, russian babuska’s berries jam, soviet cakes as Napoleon/Ptichie moloko (“bird milk” – don’t be afraid it’s not really from birds), bread with butter and honey.
◽️ Drinks: Black tea, herbal tea from different regions, kompote (stewed fruits), vodka, samogon (village vodka ) and different types of tinctures.
